Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered easily online, the most efficient way of doing so is via the NHS App. This allows you to request items on your repeat list and see when they have been issued to your local pharmacy. You can also use the NHS App to book appointments and show your Covid pass.
For full access to the NHS App you can set this up yourself using photo ID or by requesting online credentials from your GP surgery, our reception team can provide you with this, please bring photo ID on your next visit and request online access. For information on the NHS App please visit https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/

If you would prefer to request by email or need to write a message, you can email our prescription team at [email protected]

Requests for medication not on your repeat list that we have issued to you previously (On your acute list) – If you require a medication that is not already on your repeat medication list, please submit your request via econsultation. (Econsult can be found on the home page)   This will allow us to gather all the relevant information to hopefully allow us to process your request as soon as possible

Urgent prescription requests – Urgent prescription requests are requests for medication which you need within 24 hours to prevent you becoming severely unwell. Only certain medications will be processed as urgent and an exception made for them to be processed that day, urgent requests for medication considered not essential in the short term will be processed in the normal 72 hours. It is your responsibility to ensure that your repeat prescription request is ordered in plenty of time. We thank you for cooperating with this.

  • Please allow three working days (72 hours) for your prescription to be processed.
  • We kindly request that all patients who can request their medication using an online service do so. Patients who do not have this option can put their paper request into the post box at Park or Broomfield.
  • If you have more than one repeat prescription, please try to order all your items together – Our pharmacy technician Emma Bishop can assist with putting your medications in to line if you have some items that are out of sync and running out at different times. Please ask reception to arrange this for you.
  • If you are requesting past medication your doctor will need to decide whether this is appropriate and therefore it may take longer to process.
  • Prescription queries – please phone 01227 742458 between 10.00-12.00 or 14.00-16.00 Monday to Friday and choose option 2.
  • To avoid errors we cannot accept requests by telephone.
  • If you need to take drugs or medicines regularly your doctor may decide to supply some of the prescriptions without seeing you every time. You may be asked to attend the surgery periodically so that the medication can be reviewed. You will be informed that your review is due either by text or letter, please book this in as soon as possible as it may result in a delay in your medication being issued if we cannot safely prescribe.

Prescription Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication- usually more than three items a month- please check with your pharmacy for further details. Once bought a prepayment certificate covers all prescriptions changed in that applicable time. This may be useful if your condition temporarily warrants unusually frequent treatments.
